It was with much sadness that I learned of Geoff's passing. I knew him as a talented illustrator creating surreal, fantastical, and imaginative works evoking the psychedelic and space rock art of the 1960s and 70s. He also dabbled a little in ceramics. But for most of his artistic life he was an animator, working in television on the series A.L.F. and Super Mario Brothers, as well as on 11 animated feature films including The Lion King, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Fantasia 2000, and Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest.
I knew Geoff for several years, meeting up with him when we were both exhibiting at art shows like Art in the Bar. We would spend some of our exhibiting time visiting and talking about art, the art market, and just catching up. He was a very generous and kind person, a real asset to the artist community and to the practice of art generally. Life is often random, bringing both joy and sadness. Geoff and I met somewhat randomly and he was randomly taken from the community. But, the time he was here was well spent.
He will be missed.
